(August 27, 2005
-- New Chapel Hill)
In a game delayed two-and-a-half hours by
lightning, the Tyler Junior College Apaches defeated
the Navarro Bulldogs 30-16.
The Apaches began the game shortly after 9:30 due to bad
weather and lightning in the area, but produced a
win for the first time under new head coach Jamie
Critchlow.
Apaches sophomore running back Brian Rodgers (Lufkin)
had 100 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown.
Returning All-Conference defensive lineman Michael
McDonald (Gatesville) produced 7 tackles, a sack,
and 10 quarterback pressures, and defensive back
Wazir Maolud (Jonesboro, GA) was a force on special
teams, blocking a punt and tackling the punter for a
loss on another attempt.
The Apaches are now 1-0, and will travel to Bruce Field
to take on Trinity Valley Saturday.
