Two former Tyler Junior College Apaches are
continuing their football careers at the highest
level.
Running back Jonathan Combs and wide receiver Paris Hamilton
signed free agent contracts with NFL teams this
week, raising the number of current Apaches in the
NFL to ten.
Combs, a 5’9”, 230 pound Houston native, signed with the
Washington Redskins on Monday. He is expected to
compete for a roster spot at either running back or
fullback, both positions he has played in his
college career. Combs finished his college career
with two seasons at Texas College.
Hamilton, a 6’1” receiver originally from Katy, played at
Tyler Junior College from 2001-2002, averaging 24.0
yards per reception. After being ranked as the
number one junior college receiver in the country,
he signed with the University of Minnesota and
played two years as a Golden Gopher. Hamilton signed
as a free agent with the Detroit Lions.
Other Apaches currently in the NFL include Green Bay receiver
Robert Ferguson, Indianapolis running back Dominic
Rhodes, and Houston receiver Derick Armstrong.
