August 14, 2005 -- Former Tyler Junior College Apache Nose Guard Adrian Haywood (2003-2004) is impressing the coaches at Southern Methodist University, according to an article in the Dallas Morning News.
     Available here, the article stated "Junior college transfer Adrian Haywood (Mesquite) is playing so well that coach Phil Bennett has him as the starter at nose guard. Haywood, at 6-3, 275 pounds, had eight sacks and 25 tackles for loss at Tyler Junior College last season. Haywood has showed good strength, footwork and the ability to get to the ball in camp."
     The article also complemented former Apache quarterback Tony Eckhart (2002-2003), and his performance in SMU's scrimmage.
