Dear Prospective Apache,
We are glad that you are interested in attending
To join our team as a walk-on you must follow ALL the instructions on the following pages outlined for our red-shirt team. We are more apt to work with those students who take care of all the paper work first. You can give yourself an edge by simply following the instructions outlined for the ‘red-shirt football program description’.
The following is a list of some of the players who signed with universities since 2003 and started their college careers in our red-shirt program.
Austin Cade –
Doug Barnett –
Darvin Peterson –
Tim Williams –
After coaching in college for many years, many of the
players, who I am most proud of, started their college careers as
walk-ons. They were people who would
not be denied. And once given the
opportunity they made the most of it!
Sincerely,
Jamie Critchlow
Head Football Coach
The red-shirt team will not practice with the intercollegiate football team but will instead practice Monday through Thursday, 12:30-1:30 in a non-padded workout. The possibility exists that some red-shirt players may be promoted to the intercollegiate team during the fall, however that only happens with six or seven guys each year.
The practices will consist of individual and group football drills (non-padded) and physical conditioning (weight lifting and running). At the end of the fall semester, no fewer than forty-five percent of the red-shirt team members will be invited to work out with the intercollegiate football team during the spring semester. We are allowed to certify only five out-of-state players each year, so if you graduate from an out-of-state high school your chances of being certified to play here are very small. The factors for determining who joins the intercollegiate team are as follows:
Academic performance
Citizenship
Athletic ability
Work ethic
Each position coach along with the head football coach will determine if a student meets the requirements in all four areas well enough to be invited to join the intercollegiate team.
There is NO GUARANTEE that you will ever practice
with the intercollegiate team or that if you do; you will be on
scholarship. Because of the extremely
high demand from high school
football players that we offer them an

· Complete ‘admissions application’. You may download it from our web-site (www.tjc.edu) or contact the admissions office at 903/510-2398
· It is not mandatory that you live on campus but it is the most economical. If you plan to live on campus you need to contact the residential operations office at 903/510-2345. The dorm will probably be full by the middle of May.
· Attend earliest possible ‘summer orientation’ to insure that you can get enrolled for fall 2006. You may find the date and time for summer orientation by contacting the admissions office. Bring this document with you!
· When attending summer orientation, please meet with Mr. Josiah Mooney and register for the following classes to join the red-shirt team.
KINE 1102 sec 021 (football)
KINE 2109 sec 021 (weight lifting)

· Complete and bring the ‘2006 Red-Shirt Squad Agreement Form’ to the field house on the first day of class.
Sincerely,
Coach Critchlow
